While traveling to the South of France, one might think of the glitz and glamour of St Tropez, Shopping in Nice or the Cannes Film Festival. A little less might be known about the adorable village of Cassis. Cassis is best known for the Calanques, a succession of coves and creeks extending over more than twenty kilometers of coastline on the Mediterranean Sea and also its wine. There you can swim in the crystal waters or relax on the shores so rosé all day, sans probleme! (Also Vogue Paris says, Tiny City in the South of France Trumps St. Tropez anyday!)
Where to Stay
My adorable photographer friend Maddie Broderick (who is married to a French man with baby boy on the way!) and I opted for a nice relaxing weekend at Villa Dadou and Villa Mita, two gorgeous airbnb properties over looking the sea and Cap Canaille. Follow me though my lens as I fall head over heels for all things Cassis.
What to See
Hands down, you have to visit the famous Calanques or hike Cap Canaille for a grand view above Cassis. There you will be able to spot grand villas, vineyards, the village and of course the sparking ocean.
Sip and Savour
For a quite luxurious lunch or dinner, I highly recommend La Villa Madie, 2 stars and you will not regret it. Another option is of course a small picnic along the harbour in Cassis. Don’t forget the rosé!
Where to Shop in Cassis
For all things french girl chic, look no further than the boutique Lulli sur la toile, a staple in the south. There is also a great little or should I say big for Cassis, market every Wednesday and Friday. There you can snag great Provence styles, jewelry, home goods and more.

I am happy to share that Wedding Sparrow has shared my top tips on how to make your wedding photos timeless photographed in Paris. We started this shoot in a gorgeous Parisian apartment in Le Marais district with a stunning boudoir look by Girl with Serious Dream, Paris makeup and hair by Onorina Jomir and flowers by one of the best wedding florists in Paris, La Marche Design Floral. After we hit the streets of Paris in a french wedding dress by Meryl Suissa, complete with jewelry by french designer Les Couronnes de Victorie and shoes by none other than Christian Louboutin.
You have spent hours and hours dreaming of your wedding day, planning the gorgeousness down to the smallest details. Did you forget something? One of the ways to insure that your wedding will be captured in the prettiest ways possible is consulting with your wedding photographer about timing. The timing is so important when it comes to capturing your wedding in the best way possible light wise. Things to consider are; whether you will be in direct light during the ceremony, if your reception is outdoors, will it be available and set up for the photographer at least 30 minutes before the start of the reception? And finally, the time of the day when the lighting is most pretty and soft is the golden hour. This time starts about one hour before the sunsets, it’s the most romantic and complementary light of the day. This is the time if possible to be doing your couples portraits!
Imagine you’ve just received your wedding images back from your photographer and all you see during the ceremony and aisle procession/recession is a sea of your guests, all behind their cell phones and oh no…the occasional iPad! Unfortunately, although we love our iPhones, we forget how distracting and unsightly they are, especially during your wedding ceremony. We want our guests to be present, taking in this special moment. As photographers, we are there to professionally capture these moments for you and it is also distracting for us when a potential shot can be ruined due to someone jumping in front of us with their device. It’s for these reasons we believe it might be time to rethink the use of cell phones at your ceremony.
Avoid trends and meaningless props. Wedding trends come and go, some ideas are really great, while others don’t seem to hold meaning or a place at the wedding years later. Think about the items that you bring to your wedding and what meaning they hold to you. That is what you will look back on many years from now after trends fade. I love the idea of photographing treasured items in a non posed fashion to help bring out the significance in a timeless way.
There is no question that film translates light, color and skin tones to make luminous and pretty images. Many brides become attracted to the look of film without even knowing that it is actually film because it works so well at making the images look romantic, airy and timeless. If you want that pretty soft look, you will need to use a film photographer to create those gorgeous bridal portraits. Although digital has come a really long way, especially with the more affordable medium format cameras that are now on the market, it still can not replace the artistry and overall look film provides.

The perfect Paris civil wedding
Before Covid -19…which seems like ages ago, I had the pleasure of photographing beautiful Parisa and Vincent’s civil wedding in Paris’s fashionable district of Saint-Germain-des-Prés . This wedding was so special because it was intimate and had all the feels of a courthouse wedding, as we would call it in the US, but with 70 of the couples closest friends and family. From Parisa’s cute white mid length dress to her minimalist bouquet, this small wedding was chic and simple yet classic and elegant. The mini reception was cocktails and apero, at the beautiful la Maison de l’Amérique latine which boosts a huge garden and plenty of space for guests to wander.

The wedding of Elise + Kevin
Chateau du Claire de Lune - Biarritz, France
New York turned LA couple Elise and Kevin wed at Chateau du Claire de Lune which means “Moonlight.” This wedding was such a fun and fashion forward event. The bride wore a chic pants suit by Rime Arodaky, a designer based in Paris. The couple choose the chateau because they had stayed there one night after spending a bit of time in nearby San Sebastian and Biarritz. The really wanted a very easy going party that just also happened to be a wedding. This party concept meant no assigned seating. Guests were free to enjoy and mingle as they pleased while enjoying a delicious grand Paella, the largest I have ever seen! Thank you to the Chateau and the event planners, Carre Rouge Events for making this such a wonderful day for Elise, Kevin and their guests!
